The food industry is experiencing a significant shift towards veganism. The surge in consumer interest in plant-based diets is notable and opens up new avenues for businesses in the sector. You can even see the rise in vegan restaurants in Toronto. In the US there’s been a staggering 600% increase in self-identified vegans in just a three-year span. The Vegan Society points out that the vegan population in Great Britain jumped fourfold from 2014 to 2019 reaching 600,000 individuals.

An impressive uptick in vegan offerings at restaurants and global fast-food chains is apparent. Leading brands like Burger King, Taco Bell, McDonald’s, and KFC have expanded their menus to include plant-based options. They’re using innovative vegan “meat” products from companies such as Beyond Meat, Impossible Foods, and Quorn. Given this quick growth, could embracing veganism generate a substantial income stream for your business? Continue reading to learn why it might be beneficial to feature vegan choices on your menu.

Increase Your Profits

Serving vegan food doesn’t have to break the bank. Substitutes for ingredients like meat, eggs, and dairy products are often more cost-effective or similarly priced. With meat prices projected to keep climbing, opting for meatless alternatives can substantially cut costs for your dining business.

A Forbes study of 22 restaurants that transitioned to fully vegan menus revealed promising results. Among the 17 that responded, all reported a boost in sales, with some experiencing a staggering 1,000 percent surge. Additionally, these establishments noted a substantial increase in their social media followers, in some cases up to 15,000 percent. Notably, many also reported a decrease in food expenditure.

Catering to Group Reservations

When planning group outings, individuals often seek out dining venues that cater to everyone’s dietary preferences. With the rise in veganism, vegans often have a significant say in the choice of restaurant. If a restaurant’s vegan offerings aren’t appealing, it’s likely the entire group might opt for another venue. So, having attractive vegan options like many best vegan restaurants in Toronto, could mean the difference between losing or attracting a large group of diners.

Incorporating a wide range of vegan options into your menu positions your restaurant as an inclusive establishment. It demonstrates your consideration of diverse food preferences and dietary requirements. It’s not just about attracting vegans, but accommodating a wider range of patrons including vegetarians, flexitarians, and those who prefer environmentally-friendly and health-conscious choices.

Additionally, having a diverse menu appeals to those seeking a unique dining experience. This includes customers who are open to trying new dishes or those seeking alternative dining experiences. It’s about more than just offering plant-based dishes—it’s about creating a comprehensive dining experience that resonates with a broader market.

It’s An Emerging Market

The vegan market is a hot new trend. As more people start caring about their health and the environment, they’re asking for more vegan options. This has caused a big increase in demand for vegan products and services. A lot of businesses see this and want to be a part of this growing trend.

Looking at the numbers, the growth in this sector is set to be huge. The market for meat substitutes is expected to grow by 15% each year from 2019 to 2025, making it worth $28 billion. This is much faster growth than the regular meat market, which is expected to grow at only 3.4% per year from 2019 to 2026. The market for dairy substitutes, like milk made from almonds or oats, is also growing fast.

What’s more, customers are making choices based on what they think is right. A large majority, 73%, say they’re willing to change what they buy to help the environment. Over half, 57%, say they would avoid brands that don’t match up with their own beliefs about what is right and wrong. So, businesses that meet these needs have a good chance of doing well in this growing vegan market.

Customers Perceived Health Benefits

Research suggests that a significant percentage of consumers perceive health benefits associated with plant-based diets. Even those not strictly following vegan diets are increasingly attempting to cut back on meat, dairy, and egg intake due to mounting evidence of potential health risks. The majority of lifestyle diseases have been linked to animal-based ingredients, enhancing the appeal of vegan options.

An American Dietetic Association survey conducted in September 2012 offers additional insights. According to the survey, 87% of dietitians recommend plant-based diets to some, if not most, of their patients. An impressive 70% of these dietitians believe plant-based diets are nutrient-rich, further encouraging consumers to gravitate toward these options.

Expanding your menu to include more vegan choices can significantly broaden your customer base. If customers leave your establishment feeling good about what they’ve eaten and satisfied with their meal, they are more likely to return. The food we eat directly affects how we feel, and customers appreciate eateries that cater to their health needs.

Moreover, these positive experiences can result in word-of-mouth recommendations. Satisfied customers often share their positive experiences with friends and family, which could bring in new business. After all, health is a valuable asset, and restaurants that prioritize healthful options stand to benefit from this trend.

Catering to Dietary Restrictions and Health Considerations

A surprisingly high percentage of the global population, nearly 65%, has some degree of lactose intolerance. Besides, allergies to eggs and dairy products are also quite prevalent. When deciding where to dine, consumers often consider places that accommodate their health requirements or dietary restrictions.

Introducing vegan options into your menu addresses these issues. Since vegan recipes do not use dairy or eggs, they naturally cater to those with lactose intolerance or allergies related to these foods. This makes your restaurant more inclusive, catering to a wider range of dietary needs and preferences.

Vegan meals also have health benefits that appeal to a broader customer base. For instance, they do not contain any cholesterol, a component only found in animal-derived products. This makes vegan dishes an attractive choice for individuals managing their cholesterol levels.

In addition, vegan diets typically have lower fat content. This feature may attract patrons who are mindful of their fat intake or those dealing with heart-related issues. By offering vegan options, your establishment can cater to these health-conscious consumers, potentially expanding your customer base.

Veganism is in Vogue and On the Rise

High-profile celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Serena Williams, and David Attenborough have been vocal about their shift towards plant-based diets, inspiring thousands of fans to follow suit. Their influence is playing a significant role in normalizing veganism and showing that a plant-based lifestyle can be both healthy and enjoyable.

Millennials are at the forefront of this trend. As a generation known for its social and environmental consciousness, millennials are choosing veganism not just as a dietary preference, but also as a statement of their values. They’re keenly aware of the environmental footprint of their dietary choices and are opting for veganism as a more sustainable alternative.

Capitalizing on this trend by offering vegan options in your business can attract a broad customer base. This could include not just the current generation of consumers, but also future ones who are likely to continue these environmentally-conscious and ethically-minded eating habits. Therefore, adapting to this trend could be a strategic move for your business’s growth and longevity.

Conclusion

There are several strong reasons for your restaurant to include vegan options on its menu. Catering to a growing demographic of health and environmentally conscious customers not only broadens your customer base but also boosts sales. Additionally, leveraging this trend can lead to cost savings, given the typically lower prices of plant-based ingredients. Furthermore, embracing vegan options signifies an alignment with ethical and environmental values, which could enhance your brand image. By adjusting to these changing dietary trends, your restaurant shows its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. Read More

Importance of Vegan Beauty Products

Did you know that a staggering amount of animal testing still goes on in the beauty industry? Not only is it cruel, but sadly it can also be unreliable and unnecessary. That’s where vegan beauty products come in. These products are formulated without animal-derived ingredients and have not been tested on animals.

But veganism isn’t just about ethics – it can also mean better health for you and the planet. Animal by-products and synthetic chemicals used in traditional beauty products can strain our bodies, while plant-based alternatives are often more environmentally sustainable. So next time you’re shopping for makeup or skincare, opt for a cruelty-free, vegan option to positively impact your purchase. Your skin – and the planet – will thank you.

How to Choose Vegan Beauty Products

You can use these tips to make the best choices for your beauty routine.

First, check the label. Many beauty companies are now clearly labelling their products as vegan, so this is a good place to start. Unless a product is explicitly listed as vegan, that doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t vegan-friendly; it may just contain ingredients that have not yet been officially recognised as vegan by the company. In this case, you’ll need to do a little research to learn more about the ingredients in question.

Second, look for vegan products certified by an organisation as these organisations have strict standards for what qualifies as a vegan product, so you can be sure that any product bearing their logo meets these standards.

Finally, pay attention to your own personal preferences. For example, if you prefer natural ingredients, you might want to seek out products made with plant-based ingredients. Similarly, if you are looking for products free from animal testing, you’ll need to dig to find brands that meet these criteria.

Conclusion

There are so many incredible vegan beauty products available at Sephora. It was hard to narrow the list down to just 10! There’s something for everyone, from skincare and haircare to makeup and fragrance. And with so many high-quality options to choose from, you really can’t go wrong. And be sure to take advantage of the Sephora coupon before checking out to get a great deal on these high-quality products.

Going vegan is a big decision. But it’s one that can have a lot of benefits – for your health, for the environment, and for animals. If you’re considering going vegan, here are some reasons why you should do it.

Healthier

A vegan diet is a healthy one. It’s lower in fat, higher in fiber, and packed with vitamins A, C, and E. And because vegans eat less processed food than non-vegans, they tend to have fewer calories, which can lead to healthier weights.

Studies show that people who are overweight may reduce their risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and type 2 diabetes by losing weight. If you’re overweight, veganism may also help you lose excess pounds.

Affordable

While a vegan diet can be expensive, if you decide to buy only organic produce, you are cutting the costs of things like meat, dairy products, and a lot of processed ready meals that you might have been buying before, which makes it less expensive in the long run. A vegan diet that gets most of its calories from unprocessed fruits and vegetables may even lower your food costs, especially if you buy locally at a farmer’s market.

More convenient than ever

You can find vegan versions of almost any product at your local grocery store – everything from mayonnaise to marshmallows. Vegan diets used to be hard to follow, but today it’s easier than ever. A number of cookbooks offer recipes that help you learn how to cook delicious vegan foods, and restaurants everywhere offer a variety of vegan options. Just type in vegan options near me to search online and see what comes up.

Helping the planet

The meat industry is associated with food-related greenhouse gas emissions. Animal agriculture also uses more water than all other human activities combined, while growing crops to feed animals contributes to deforestation.

Going vegan means you’ll be reducing the amount of energy and resources used to raise animals for food, which can help protect the environment.

At the same time, you’ll be helping to feed people in need. It takes 16 pounds of grain to produce just one pound of beef, but it only takes 2 pounds of grain to produce a pound of tofu. The world’s hungry could be fed more cheaply and efficiently if we stopped feeding so much grain to livestock and used it to feed people instead.

Helping animals

If you’re going vegan, it’s likely because you don’t want animals to suffer. Animal agriculture also contributes to animal cruelty and environmental problems. By going vegan, you’ll be reducing the demand for meat and dairy products – which will help put an end to factory farming. And that could make a world of difference for our fellow earthlings.

So why should you go vegan? Because your health, the environment, and animals all benefit. If that is not enough to get you to go vegan, what is? Now is the time to try this amazing lifestyle!

The organic craze is in full swing, and while buying organic food has obvious benefits, there are a number of other products you can buy which pack an organic punch. Everything from vapes to prosecco now have organic alternatives, because they are widely believed to be better for your body, and kinder to the environment.

One of the most popular avenues for those looking to go organic is skincare, which has seen a huge increase in the number of organic products available on the market. There is a good reason for this. Organic skincare products tend to be easier on your skin than artificial alternatives, with many customers claiming that organic creams and oils reduce inflammation and prevent long term irritation.

With environmental awareness increasing and more and more people buying particular products for ethical reasons, there’s no doubt that organic skincare is only going to grow in popularity.

Here’s why:

Naturally sourced ingredients are popular in a number of forms

Organic skincare is indicative of a wider trend in demand for different organic products. You only have to look on the shelves of local shops to realize there is a strong demand for healthier and more ethically-sourced alternatives to conventional, synthetically created products.

CBD – otherwise known as Cannabidiol – is a prime example of this. It has seen a huge rise in success in recent years, and has impacted a range of existing industries, most notably in skincare cream and vape form.

Indeed, the rise of organic ingredients is changing the mindset of many customers when they make purchasing decisions.

Traditionally, if you’re looking to buy a product, you look at factors like value for money, durability and customer reviews. Now, consumers look closely at the ingredients themselves and how ethical the product’s production process is.

For example, if you’re shopping for a skincare cream, you might look carefully at how many potentially harmful chemicals are inside it, or look for the best vape juice, if you enjoy CBD vaping.

Organic skincare is better for the environment

Another reason why organic skincare is only set to become more relevant in the future is that it is arguably better for the environment than its artificial alternatives.

The first environmental benefit of organic skincare is that the ingredients originate from natural sources which are relatively easy to grow sustainably. Another reason is that many organic products are specifically designed to be safe to swim in the sea with.

Many artificial skincare products (including sun-tan lotions) harm the water quality when it reaches the sea, which negatively impacts sea life. Organic products help reduce this impact, and make them more practical to wear if you are going for a wild swim or relaxing by the sea on holiday.

Using natural ingredients lessens the chance of inflammation or a bad reaction

The most fundamental reason why many people are flocking to organic skincare products is that they are thought to reduce skin irritation over time. This is particularly important if you have sensitive skin, because your body is less likely to react negatively to the ingredients, and tend to have a higher nutritional value.

Of course, some people argue that these natural ingredients make organic skincare less effective. They believe there is a reason why many creams and lotions use artificial chemicals, and that plant-based alternatives are not as powerful.

These claims have been disproved, however, because organic skincare products are in no way fundamentally inferior to artificial ones.

Health and well being are two core fundamentals that should always be given the highest prioritization in any given individual’s life. It truly does not matter who the individual in question is, what their personal circumstances happen to be, or where in the world they happen to live. The simple underlying fact is that focusing on prioritizing health and well being should always be of the utmost importance. For some individuals, it most certainly is. For others, it is a learning curve. Either way, that simple fact never changes or wavers.

Diet is one of (if not the) the most important contributing factors to any given individual’s health and well being. Over the years, we have seen many different approaches to diet, all of which have been important and valuable in and of themselves. There is quite a lot to be said about the tremendous amount of attention to detail and overall emphasis surrounding the fact that each diet, different as it may be from others, is valuable for its own reasons. Now, we are seeing the rise of the most progressive and sustainable era in diet yet.

The introduction of the organic food industry

The rise of organic food has taken off with a bang. Coming to fruition at a time where the world has been more focused on sustainability in every aspect of our lives, the organic era in diet and dietary intake has already proven itself to be incredibly valuable time and again in the relatively short time that it has come into vibrant life. The introduction of the organic food industry has managed to go from strength to strength with relative ease and transparency, riding waves of interest and investment that only grow stronger all the time.

Global love of organic food grows

Today, there is a globally rising love of organic food. Investing in our health and well being has resulted in the rise of sustainability sourced and designed industries like the organic food industry. And we are continuing to see them go from strength to strength more and more all the time, especially in recent years. Organic food is all about investing in a dietary approach that is natural in practically every way. Lacking the chemicals and toxins that are so often (if not always) included in other dietary approaches and methods, the organic approach is fantastic and it is quickly gaining traction.

Prioritization of organic diet becomes global shift

Today, we are seeing a global shift in the prioritization of the organic diet. Whether it is more individuals switching to konjac pasta or more individuals around the globe literally shifting to an entirely organic diet, the point always remains the same: there is a globally rising love of organic food – and it is only going to continue to gain momentum as time goes on. This is, in many ways, just the tip of the iceberg for the organic movement in the agriculture industry. And the future of organic food and the surrounding industry has never looked brighter.

John Oberg is an animal advocate, influencer, and social media professional working to make the world a kinder place for animals by utilizing social media.

When did you become vegan and what led you to become a vegan activist?

I became vegan in 2009 at the age of 22. I went vegan because I finally made the connection that the compassion I have for animals I’ve had a close connection with, like the cats, dogs, and turtles I grew up with, should be equally applied to the animals I’ve been eating me entire life — chickens, pigs, and cows. I went vegetarian on principle and then once I learned how farm animals are treated — essentially as objects who are forced to endure long periods of intense suffering — I knew I had to become a vegan activist to encourage others to choose compassion.

What are your top tips for utilizing social media to help make the world a more compassionate place?

I have a few top tips I have for animal activists who want to use social media to help animals. For one, despite the urge to judge everyone and their mother for the fact that they’re eating animals, take a step back and reflect. You likely were in their shoes at some point some months or years (or maybe even decades) ago. For that fact, be kind in how you approach them. Funnel the outrage you may have that people are actively harming animals with their food choices into productive, kind conversation that raises awareness and inspires change. Additionally, don’t spend your time attacking other vegans. Something I’ve learned in my 11 years of vegan advocacy is that no two vegans agree on everything — whether that’s effective vegan strategy or politics. So, don’t let our minor — or even major — differences be so distracting. Focus on reaching the general public; after all, they’re the ones who are actively making choices on a daily basis that harm animals. Lastly, understand that you are largely going to be unaware of the impact you make on social media. It’s pretty rare that someone will tell you that they went vegan because of something you posted, but I promise you that you are making that kind of impact, and making it often. Additionally, not everyone is going to go vegan overnight because of your activism on social media. What will happen, however, is that you’ll have nslwo chipped away at the walls that people have and planted seeds that will likely one day sprout into people moving in the direction of veganism.

Do you think activists should focus their efforts on the farming industry or the consumers?

Change comes from the bottom up, not the top down. So, we shouldn’t look to the Meat Industry or politicians to be the arbiters of change. Without consumers demanding change, nothing will happen. There are certain campaigns that are worth doing that put pressure on the higher-ups, but for the average animal activist who wants to use social media to help animals, inspiring non-vegans to become more vegan is where you’ll make the biggest impact.

Many people have a fear of public speaking but you seem to do it with such ease! What are your top tips for people who struggle with public speaking?

When doing public speaking, it’s better to sound natural and not perfect than it is to sound like a robot and sound like you’re reading from a script. People want to hear someone who is relatable. Additionally, don’t get too in the weeds to overwhelm people, but also don’t speak so broadly/vaguely that you fail to give practical advice. Lastly, understand that people aren’t expecting you to be perfect or comfortable on stage and if you mess up, they do not care. So don’t put too much pressure on yourself.

What types of activism are there and what is your advice for new activists?

The types of activism one could get involved with are essentially limitless. Which is good news to potential animal activists who may think that the only option they have are to do things that might make them uncomfortable (i.e. protesting or even cooking vegan food for people). The key is to find your niche and to run with it. Determine where your skills and interests overlap with the needs of the vegan community. Figure out how your passion can be utilized to speak up for animals. And no matter what niche you fall into, using social media to amplify your efforts is an incredibly powerful tool.

Ever seen a tongue split? Maybe you’re thinking about getting it done? We found out what it’s like, how much it hurts, tricks you can do with it, what men and women think about it, and the things you should consider before getting it done. Lulu Lotus, a You Tuber and vegan children’s book author tells us all about it.

1.) What inspired you to get your tonque split?
As a child I remember seeing someone with a tongue split in a Guinness World Record book- I was instantly drawn to it. Fast forward over 10 years later- I stumbled upon some tongue split videos on Instagram and ended up finding a body mod artist who was coming to town. I jumped at the idea and booked an appointment right away.

2.) How much did it hurt and how was the healing process?
I gave birth to both of my sons without an epidural and would say the tongue split hurt more! I didn’t expect such severe pain but tongues heal very quickly. I had the stitches removed 6 days after the procedure, which I found worse than the healing process. I was very swollen and some of the stitches were stuck in my tongue. The healing process is very different for each person- I know someone who said he ate pizza the first day he had the procedure done.

3.) Any changes in your speech or taste?

My speech was only affected for the first few weeks until I adjusted to having two tongues. Following the procedure food didn’t taste the way it used to- it’s common to lose some taste buds but they do grow back. I also had some numbness in the tips of my tongues which went away after a few weeks.

4.) How have men reacted to it compared to women?

Men definitely view it in a sexual light- typically thinking of oral sex when they first see it. I find that the ones who aren’t typically interested in body mods are still attracted to it for that reason. Some women love it and tell me they’re inspired to get it done. Others hate it- I’d guess it’s because it can appear threatening/seductive especially if they don’t want their partner to be interested in it.

5.) Were your friends surprised you got your tonque split?

Most of my friends weren’t surprised because they know I’ve always had very different interests. The ones that were surprised were more shocked with the procedure itself compared to me having it done. Some people have never heard of tongue splitting before so it’s something that they’ve never imagined.

6.) What kind of tricks can you do with your split tonque?

I’m blessed with a very flexible tongue so I can do many different tricks. I don’t know exactly what their names are but I’m able to twist and contort it in different ways. I can form a 3 leafed clover, do the wave, clap, puff it up, lick my lips from both sides, rub it together, punch with it. I can even use it like a third hand and pick up/throw food and other items.

7.) Any advice for those considering this body modification?

I’d recommend finding a legitimate person to do the procedure in your area- join body mod groups and ask for recommendations. Just like any surgery the risks involved are important to research so make sure you fully understand what can go wrong. During the first few days after the procedure I’d recommend trying to talk as little as possible- resting your tongue is so important. Do whatever you can to reduce and keep swelling to a minimum.

Sure, that cast looked cute as part of your mummy Halloween costume. However, now that the masquerades are over, you’re likely sick of sitting on the disabled list with a broken bone.

How can you strengthen your skeleton and prevent fractures? You can benefit your bone health greatly by making healthy food choices. Here are nine of the tastiest treats to incorporate into your diet.

1. Carrots

Does osteoporosis run in your family? If so, you might want to make like Bugs Bunny and reach for some carrots. Many people mistakenly believe taking a calcium supplement is all they need to do for healthy bones. However, it’s the synergistic interplay of many different minerals working together that produces the most significant health effects. In particular, a diet high in vegetables like carrots benefits overall well-being — including bone health.

2. Dark, Leafy Greens

Your teeth have to work overtime to chew deep greens like Swiss chard and arugula — and this helps strengthen your teeth. Both collard greens and spinach rank among the vegetables highest in calcium, too. Your body needs calcium to build healthy bones.

Fortunately, it’s easy to incorporate more of these veggies into your diet. You can make a traditional collard greens side dish with your evening meal. Add a few leaves to your lunchtime salad or wrap. You can even blend arugula or kale into your morning omelet.

3. Radishes

Radishes help your bones in two ways. These red root vegetables contain vitamin K, a nutrient that may impact calcium absorption as much as vitamin D. Additionally, cruciferous vegetables act as natural toothbrushes. As you chew, your mouth releases more saliva to rinse away plaque-causing bacteria. The crunch of such veggies also scrubs particles away from tooth surfaces. Additionally, your body needs this vitamin to strengthen bones and recover from fractures.

4. Beans

Phosphorus, like fluoride, is an essential mineral for dental health. You can get healthy levels of this mineral from beans of all varieties, from pinto to kidney.

Beans also contain high levels of protein, so if you embrace a vegan or vegetarian diet, strive to eat more. You can make a batch of burritos to freeze and take one along for a grab-and-go workday lunch.

5. Broccoli

Even if you follow a vegan lifestyle, you can get adequate calcium by incorporating more broccoli into your diet. As a bonus, these “little trees” are widely known in folk medicine for preventing cancer. Healthy adults need 1,000 mg of calcium daily, and this veggie provides nearly 10% of that figure in one serving.

6. Yogurt

You can take calcium supplements all day long, but if your diet lacks adequate levels of vitamin D, you won’t absorb it effectively. Start your day with a healthy parfait containing yogurt. You can also get the same benefits from nondairy yogurt if you don’t consume dairy products. Many varieties contain high levels of the sunshine vitamin. Your body can also manufacture this nutrient with adequate sun exposure. Strive to get outdoors for at least 10-15 minutes daily without sunscreen to boost levels of vitamin D, too.

7. Sesame Seeds and Tahini

Protein builds muscles, which support a healthy skeleton. You can make sunflower seed tahini easily at home and use this spread to increase your intake of amino acids. You can sprinkle the seeds on salads to add a satisfying crunch and salty flavor without reaching for the shaker.

Strengthen Your Bones by Making Good Dietary Choices

If you want to strengthen your bones and prevent fractures and osteoporosis, start by taking a look at what you put on your plate. When you combine a healthy diet with reasonable exercise and adequate rest, you benefit your skeleton and your overall health.
